When: Mid-morning, October 5th
Where: Professor Moriarti's Mansion
Who: Lilput Wetsch and Johann Moriarti

Liliput rested her head back against the chair. She took the time to inhale the coarse, fine scent of the material-- tobacco stained and simply very very old. Old not as in 'death', not as in the drip of medicine or the feel of pale skin beneath tiny hands, but of many fine years put to use. A half drunk, warm glass of sweet wine lay on the armrest, still cloudy around the rim from the touch of Johann's lips.

Professor Moriarti wasn't in yet-- he was collecting a book order in town, giving Lili a chance to catch up on some reading.  Right now she was studying the diagram of the Astrum system- the energy source for all of Traverse, and consequently, her very own Grandfather's crowning glory.

Poor Grandpapa, to be claimed so suddenly. Her Papa was distraught, her Mother; indifferent. He had never liked her, with all her vogue charms and rouged lips. However, he did love Lili very dearly, teaching her from a young age about the stars.

"Astrum" He had said "draws from the power of the stars"

That was just the fundemental. The diagram folded out on her lap; an intricate, almost orante, piece of art outlining numerous tubes, energies, and areas of varying reception. All very complicated, all very interesting.

Yawning, Lili tilted her head against the chair, her eyes shutting as she traced her Grandfather's map of stars.

The weather had been strange that morning-- a fine dusty rain that quickly turned into a loud, though brief, downpour of cold October rain. He had protected his antiques within the breast of his large black coat.

When he returned home, he could feel the heat of the fire from the bottom of the stairs. He walked up to the library, where Lili was sleeping soundly, The mechanics of the Arstrum system on her tiny chest.

The fire bathed half of her face. Swallowing a little, he coughed loudly as to alert Lili to his presence.

"Miss Wentsch." He smiled, setting the books on a side table.

Lili had been dreaming of fields; Elysian fields of stars, dark green fields she could feel beneath her hands-- cool and moist, like her Grandfather's greenery.

"Professor." She smiled, stretching her arms above her head, before doing an arabesque into her sitting position. "I was just having a sleep."

Johann smiled. She looked so at home there: like a little girl curled up with her favourite story book, detailing percentages and ohms instead of princesses and evil toads.

His teacher, Julian Wentsch, had given him that book on the eve of it's publishing. His old, dry hands had clasped it tight. Inside it said:

My brother, may you use this to utilise your abilities, and first and foremost, to remember them. Your faithful teacher and friend, Julian Wentsch

Julian had been the Father he never had, ensuring he had a comfortable home and a rich education. One of the most influential scientists in all of Traverse had chosen an abandoned baby, swaddled in the bottom of a dry well one ominous Autumn afternoon, to be his protegee. He could have chosen anyone, but he chose him.

So, when Lili had asked for his tutleage, he had to accept. If not for the charming, beautiful, and intelligent young girl with fingertips were stained with writing ink... then for his old friend.

"Would you like a drink? I always find it refreshing when reading."
